Vesta Derby Oaks and "Face it" share about building strong and healthy relationships at home
Vesta Derby Oaks partnered with the organization “Face it”. Face It directly addresses the unacceptable incidences of child abuse and neglect in Kentucky with the promotion of best practices in child abuse prevention and intervention, engaging the community, and advocating for effective policies to improve the child welfare system. On Oct 10th “Face it” team members visited Vesta Derby Oaks and shared healthy techniques on how to connect with your child and build strong and healthy relationships with them. They also opened the floor up for discussion so that the many parents in the community could share best practices and what works for them in their homes. This was very important for Derby because so many kids live in our complex and interact with one another. It is important to make sure that parents know they are not alone and that they have a support system around them. The old saying that “It takes a village to raise a child” is very true and this motto will be adopted by the residents of Derby Oaks.
While the parents enjoyed the Face it session the kids were able to participate in craft night. The kids decorated cookies and enjoyed food. This was a very well attended event and many relationships were formed during this session.
